Dear Parents,

The staff and I would like to welcome you and your child to Hazelwood Elementary School for the 2019-2020 school year. Whether you are new to our Hazelwood family or returning to our great school for another successful school year, WELCOME!   I consider it a great honor & privilege to serve along with the staff of Hazelwood Elementary. Thank you for your support as we all work together to provide our students with a positive, collaborative, and engaging learning experience. Please take the time to review our Student Handbook, using the link on the Homepage.  The  handbook is filled with important information regarding school policies and procedures, important for both you and your child.

We believe clear communication between home and school is important to the success of our students and our school.  Our intentions are to keep you informed and connected with your child’s experiences. We strive to set clear expectations. While we make every effort to provide you with current information, we will continue to share updates with you as the school year progresses. If you have questions regarding the handbook, or any other connections with our school, please feel free to speak with our office staff or your child’s teacher. They will be able to connect you with the resources for you and your child.

One of the most crucial ways you, as the parent/guardian, can help provide your child with a strong foundation for learning in their educational experience is to be involved. We encourage you to visit our school website www.haywood.k12.nc.us/HCS/schools/HES for current information, pictures, and updates.   Stay informed of school activities and events, and READ, READ, READ with your child each day!  If you have a day away from work, plan a lunch visit with your child in our cafeteria.  We serve delicious, well-balanced meals to keep your child nourished.

Hazelwood Elementary is proud to show our Plotthound Pride! We encourage students to be Positive, to show Respect, to have Integrity, to be Determined, and  to give their best Effort each day.  Our goal is to help each student thrive in the 21st century. We believe every child possesses unique strengths and has the ability to be successful in their endeavors.  Our goal as educators at Hazelwood Elementary is to value and develop the whole child. The mission and beliefs we have established help the staff and students to improve relationships, transform the school culture, and motivate students and staff to seek success in all they do.

I hope you are ready for a great year at Hazelwood Elementary!  We are so glad you are here!

Wendy Rogers, Principal
