On Friday, December 4th, Jim Davis along with Sue Miller from Tuscola High School brought students from the STEM Club to implement a special science and technology experiment with our 5th grade students. The high school students presented experiments to show chemical and physical changes. Fifth grade students observed color changes, gas being generated, the forming of a precipitate, and the evolution or absorption of energy in the mixed substances.
One of the most intriguing creations was “Elephant Toothpaste”. This was made with a concentrated amount of hydrogen peroxide. Students were also given their own batch of “slime” created from 2 chemicals that cause a gel like reaction when combined. Lastly, students emerged outside to have their picture taken by a drone, flown by students, from overhead. Data from the drone will later be used by Tuscola’s students for a special presentation.
The STEM Club and our 5th graders made a real WIN-WIN in learning about science!
