On February 7th, Hazelwood’s fifth graders participated in an Ecology Field Day through the Muddy Sneakers program. Students worked with the staff from Muddy Sneakers to do hands-on investigations on different ecology topics. Students investigated a 1-foot square to identify all the biotic and abiotic materials in that one area that impact our environment. Students also work in teams to examine different organisms and classify them as a producer, consumer, or decomposer in our terrestrial food chain.
Next month, our fifth graders will be traveling to Bent Creek in Asheville to continue our hands-on learning experiences through the Muddy Sneakers program where we will be investigating different types of heat transfer.
