We are pleased to offer a summer reading program at Hazelwood Elementary to keep our students reading over the long break. You are invited to drop in each Tuesday morning between 11:00 – 1:00 to check out books from our school library! We have planned activities and handouts to help you support and encourage your child’s reading. Story Time will be from 11:30 – 12:00 in the library each Tuesday where our teachers will be reading some of your favorite books. The Summer Reading Program will begin on Tuesday, June 24, 2013 and will continue until Tuesday, August 5, 2013.
Research has shown that if students do not read over the summer, their reading skills drop an average of 2-3 levels! However, students who continue to read daily over the summer months are able to maintain or increase their reading levels. Daily reading can also help your child enter the next grade with confidence and skill.
We understand that scheduled vacations and planned activities might keep you from attending EVERY week, but we encourage you to attend as many weeks as possible! Please call the school at 456-2406 if you have any questions.
